Mother Elton Green Stokes, 75, transitioned on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at her residence in Thaxton, MS.
MOTHER Elton Green Stokes was born June 1, 1945 to the late Mr. Gus Green and Lula Bell McKnight Green in Pontotoc County.
MOTHER Elton Green Stokes met and married the love of her life of 48 years, the late Mr. J.D. Stokes in October of 1972. After moving to Toccopola with her husband, she joined Spring Hill Toccopola Church of the Living God, where she remined a faithful member until her health began to fail her. She was the Church Mother, served on the Kitchen Committee and Usher Board. Under the leadership of Elder J.W. Gray, she would prepare the communion table. Her favorite songs were, “Real, Real, Jesus Is Real to Me” and “Don’t Let the Devil Ride”, favorite Hymn was “Shine on me, will the light from the light house, shine on me”.
After her health begin to decline, she started going to church with her daughter Cassandra. She fellowshipped with Toccopola Band Church of the Living God, under the leadership of Bishop Calvin Worthem. She never forgot her home church Spring Hill Toccopola.
MOTHER Elton Green Stokes leaves to cherish her memories two children, Christopher Stokes and Cassandra Stokes; three sisters, Lula Mae Cheesebourough, Chicago, IL, Joyce Marie Calvert, Indianapolis, IN, and Emma Lou Keys of Pontotoc, MS; one brother, Noisel (Mary) Green of Pontotoc, MS; two sisters-in-law, Essie Williams and Sallie Reese both of Detroit, MI; one brother-in-law, J.B. Vololler Stokes of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren, Xzavious Stokes, Mariah Stokes and Skylar Stokes, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Stokes, her parents, Gus Green and Lula Bell McKnight Green, and four brothers.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 1p.m., at The Church Of The Living God in Thaxton, MS. Burial will take place at Greater Springhill Toccopola Church Cemetery in Oxford, MS. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 20, 2021 from 4-6p.m., at Serenity-Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc.
