Winford Curtis Roberts

Hatley – Winford Curtis Roberts, 87, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at his residence with his loving family surrounding him. Born on February 1, 1934, in Splunge, Mississippi, he was a son to the late Jett Roberts and Ellie Adams Roberts.

Winford grew up in Monroe County in a large family, with four sisters and a brother. He graduated from Smithville High School. Winford worked at Scribner Equipment, Walker Manufacturing, and True Temper Sports throughout his life. He was a very hard worker who could repair just about anything. Through the years he made many lifelong friends at work and he cared about his co-workers greatly.

He married Barbara Nell Nash, on May 11, 1957, and they were married for over 63 years. Together, they were blessed by God with a daughter and later a large family with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Winford believed in God and was a Christian. A man with a dry sense of humor, Winford was always meticulous and particular when working on projects yet easy going with his family and friends. Some of his close friends were Tommy Ford, Charles Petty, Jackie Palmer, Steve Chism, as well as his other co-workers through the years.

In his free time, he would rather be outside than inside. Whether he was gardening, driving his tractor, or bird hunting, Winford always enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to occasionally listen to country music yet he would rather listen to his family gather and spend time together.

His smile and presence will be missed dearly as he was loved by so many. The wonderful memories and love he gave through the years will be cherished forever.

Left behind to treasure his memories are his wife, Barbara Nell Nash Roberts, Hatley; daughter, Loretta Worthy (Danny), Hatley; grandchildren, Jessica Johns (Jason), Diana Worthy, and Katie Beth Worthy; great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Johns and Lula Beth Worthy; sister-in-law, Jerri Nash, Smithville; brothers-in-law, Howard Junior Nash, Hatley, Elgar Suggs, Hatley; nieces and nephews, Greg Roberts, Norma Cantrell, Melinda May, Sandra Boone, Elgene Dawkins, Penny Eaves, Buddy Wayne Suggs, Sheila Keltz, Charlotte Nell Tidwell, Elizabeth Hester, Teddy Nash, Tony Nash, Tim Nash, Burt Nash, Randy Nash, and Justin Nash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jett Roberts and Ellie Adams Roberts; sisters, Clorie Cumberland, Elvis Faulkner, Vivian Spruiell, Estelle Carroll; and a brother, J. G. Roberts
