Robert E. Williams, Sr. “Gene” passed peacefully away on Friday, April 2, 2021, at
his residence. Gene was born on June 15, 1932, in West Point, MS to the late
Eneth Raymond and Estella Waldrop Williams of Aberdeen. He was a longtime
member of South Side Baptist Church. Gene honorably served his country in the
Korean War. He graduated from Aberdeen High School upon his return from the
service. For 25 years, he along with his wife, Colleen, owned and operated
Williams Grocery Store. Gene went on to work for the City of Aberdeen Street
Department, retiring in 1995 as a supervisor. He also served as an alderman for
the city of Aberdeen from 1968 to 1976. He was a member of the American
Legion and served as treasurer for the Antique and Classic Car Club for several
years.
Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Iris Colleen Lancaster Williams, son,
Robert E. Williams, Jr (Mary Jo), Aberdeen; granddaughter, Dr. Allie Williams
Lambert (Eric) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; sister, Carolyn Cork (Colon), Millport,
AL; brother, Harold Williams, Lebanon, TN; sisters in law, Doris L. Sloan, Tupelo
and Shirley L. Reese, Hamilton, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Raymond
Williams.
Private family services will be held at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen with
Bro. David Harrell officiating. Pallbearers will be Frank Bender, Kevin Cox, Russell
Sloan, Tuck Jones, Walter Lann III, and Ray Hancock. Honorary pallbearers will be
Colon Cork and Eric Lambert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital.
