Mother Macy Cubell Ferrell, 105, transitioned on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at her residence in New Albany. She was born to Eliza Pegues Visor and Harvey Visor, October 20, 1915 in Oxford, Lafayette County, MS.
Sis. Macy was a homemaker and the wife of Washington Ferrell. They were the parents of thirteen children.
In the early years she and her husband were farmers who raised cotton. She planted gardens, milked cows, worked in the fields and prepared home-made meals every day.
Sis. Macy was the oldest member of Zion Chapel M.B. Church where she served as an Adult Sunday School teacher, church Treasurer, and member of the Missionary Society. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho, New Albany, Court #5 and the oldest member of the the New Albany NAACP. She loved people and spent her life sowing into the lives of others. She used her time of earth wisely.
When her granddaughter started Headstart, Sis. Macy decided to become a Bus Monitor. She rode to school keeping an eye on her grandchild and helping to encourage the children to become successful adults. The Headstart Staff honored her by voting her Grandmother of the Year.
Macy Cubell Visor Ferrell is survived by her children: W.T. Ferrell and Harvie Ferrell of Aurora, IL, John (Alice) Ferrell of Westerville, OH, Hayes (Charlene) Ferrell of Stone Mountain, GA, Paul ( Yvonne) Ferrell of Memphis, TN, Grace Goree and Vickie McNeil of New Albany, MS, a daughter-in-law: Ollie Ferrell of Ft. Worth, TX, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her beloved Zion Chapel M.B. Church family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Washington Ferrell, an infant son, sons: Elton Ferrell and Hugh Wesley Ferrell, daughters: Lou Mamie Haynes, Adgria Ferrell Jones and Lora Lovell Spikener.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1p.m., at Zion Chapel M.B. Church in New Albany. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in New Albany. Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 4-6p.m., at Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home Chapel."
