Mrs. Craig was born on August 6, 1950, to Harvey Q. and Ida Marie Calfee. A native of Oxford, she graduated from Lafayette High School and has been a longtime member of Yellow Leaf Baptist Church. Mrs. Craig worked at the North Mississippi Regional Center from 1974 to 1976, and spent time working at 1-Hour Martinizing Cleaners and The Ritz Theatre. It was in 1976 that Mrs. Craig realized her true passion was in childcare and opened a daycare in her home. A trusting and beloved nanny, she cared for many children over the years, treating each one as if they were her own. Despite all of her hard work, Mrs. Craig still managed to devote her attention to her own family, always making sure they knew how much she loved and cared for them. When she was able, she would spend time outside, working in her flower beds and tending to her hummingbird feeders. With a love for animals, Mrs. Craig had many dogs over the years, with a special love for border collies and shepherds. She was married for 46 years to the love of her life, Minta Miles Craig. As the social one of the relationship, Mrs. Craig found great joy in planning various trips and outings. Together they loved to travel, whether it be the Pensacola Beach, FL to visit family or Branson, MO to visit Silver Dollar City. They would gather their nieces, nephews, and other “adopted” children to take them on road trips to Parkin, AR to visit family, or to Memphis to catch a show. She had a special love for holidays and was known to be the best cook in the family. Many Friday nights, you could find Mr. and Mrs. Craig with the whole family, gathered around a table full of food at the Sizzler or The Beacon, making precious memories that were sure to be cherished. Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Quinton Calfee and her great-nephew, Sean Alexander Farmer.
Mrs. Craig is survived by her husband, Minta Miles Craig of Oxford, MS; her mother, Marie Calfee of Taylor, MS; her step-daughters, Lisa Craig of Fayetteville, AR and Stacey Craig of AR; sister, Sandra C. Warren of Oxford, MS; brothers, Harvey L. Calfee and his wife, Delorse of Oxford, MS and Pat E. Calfee of Taylor, MS; as well as one step-granddaughter, three nieces, two nephews, one great-niece, eight great-nephews, and two great-great-nephews.
