Ellen Wright Douglas

February 15, 1965 ~ August 5, 2022

ELLEN WRIGHT DOUGLAS (REGAN), age 57, resident of Oxford, MS, passed away on Friday, August 5, in Tupelo, MS, after a long and arduous four and a half year battle with stage IV breast cancer.

Though she was born in Boulder, CO, Ellen spent the majority of her upbringing in Glenmoore, PA, attending Westtown School. She then went on to play field hockey in college while achieving her Bachelor’s Degree in American History from College of Wooster in Wooster, OH, in 1988. After living briefly in San Francisco, CA, Baton Rouge, LA, Evanston, IL, and Melbourne, Australia, Ellen settled in Oxford in 1999 to raise her children. Soon after moving to Oxford, Ellen completed her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Mississippi, leading her to a career as an educator in the Oxford School District for seventeen years before earning her early retirement in 2019. She achieved her National Board Certification in 2009.

An avid traveler and lover of the world, Ellen experienced many cultures around the globe and did her best to share her experiences with her family, friends, and students. She enjoyed art in every form throughout her life, leading her to attend the Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia, PA in 1989. Ellen continued exploring her love of music, crafts, and classic films as her main hobbies until her death. She also enjoyed roadtrips with her family, gardening, and taking pictures of the sunset.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of thirteen years, Gene Regan, her mother, Margaret Wright, her brother, Robert Wright, and her three children: Toby Douglas, Gavin Douglas, and Natalie Regan.

Ellen will be cremated, with her ashes to be placed in the Oxford Memorial Cemetery. There will be a public visitation at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, MS, on Monday, August 8, at 5:00pm until 7:00pm, where all who knew Ellen and her family may come and share their memories and give their condolences. There will be a private celebration of life held at a later time.

The family of the deceased would like to express their gratitude toward the North Mississippi Medical Center Hematology Oncology in Tupelo, MS, and Dr. Paschal Wilson and his team for helping her fight her illness for so long. As well as the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Wing in Tupelo, MS, who provided the best care possible for Ellen’s comfort in her final days. Their efforts are appreciated beyond words.
