Bruce David Leopold

Bruce David Leopold passed away at his home in Starkville, MS, on September 22, 2022.

Born September 27, 1955, near his hometown of Conshohocken, PA, Bruce came to Starkville to obtain his M.S. degree and returned in 1987 to pursue a career at Mississippi State University. Selected as Head of MSU’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture in 2000, Bruce was a highly influential leader in the wildlife profession, dedicating his career and life to the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Leopold and Jane Edith Leopold, and grandparents, Fred and Thea Leopold and Harry and Lillian Scheetz.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Sandra Jane Leopold; sister-in-law, Deborah Neeson; cousins, Larry Griffiths, Linda Cook, and Greta Leopold; close friends, Laura Andrews and Angela Hill; and 5 beloved dogs. Bruce also leaves behind a host of friends, colleagues, and former students, as well as his lifelong contributions to the field of natural resources.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Starkville, MS. Burial will be in Wake Forest Cemetery in Dancy, MS.
