Clifton Wayne Shields

November 8, 1935 ~ October 5, 2022 (age 86)

Clifton Wayne Shields, 86, departed this life for his eternal reward from North Miss. Medical Center on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 after a long illness.  Clifton, an Itawamba County native, was born on November 8, 1935 to the late Durell Shields and Lola Mae Collum Shields.  He grew up in the Ozark Community and graduated from Houston High School.  Clifton married Agnes Johnson on June 12, 1954 and they had 67 years together until his death.  A patriotic American, Clifton served his country in the U. S. Army during the post Korean War era and was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4.  He spent 38 years working for Day Brite Lighting in Tupelo retiring as a Master Die Setter.  Clifton was a longtime member of the Tupelo Freewill Baptist Church and he enjoyed southern gospel music.  Clifton had a steely mind and could remember and fix most anything.  He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, fur trapping, watching westerns and playing spinners dominoes.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 8, 2022 from the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Billy West officiating with reflections by his son in law, Lauren Clark.  Burial will take place in the Ozark Cemetery north of Mantachie.  Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Saturday only. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Livestreaming at 2 PM and will be permanently archived thereafter.

Clifton is survived by his wife, Agnes of Tupelo; his daughters, Angela Teresa Shields Earnheart and her husband,  Glen of Knoxville, TN and Lecersia Ann Shields Clark and husband, Lauren of Fort Worth, Texas;   two sisters-in-law, Virginia Peters and husband, Danny of Unity community, Eva Smith of  the Centerville community; one brother-in-law Bobby Johnson and wife, Margaret of Ozark, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Alan Brown, Mike Chase, Lauren Clark, Glen Earnheart, Jason Peters and Rickey Shields.  Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Peters, Jaden Peters, Eddie and Eric Shields, Kilby and Kelcy Shields and Dan Starkey.
