Larry Joseph Vegas I, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9 at North Mississippi Medical Center after a long terminal illness. He was born in Larose, Louisiana, on May 8, 1952 to John and Florence Vegas where he grew up learning the shrimping boat business with his family. He became a Mississippi resident in the 1980s where he raised his children and made friends for a lifetime. He served the Baldwyn community as a carpenter for over 15 years. He was also a local shrimp dealer. In his retirement, he worked part time for Hot Shot truck and transport service where he delivered parts for shipyards. He enjoyed being outside, listening to old music, reading his Bible, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father John Vegas I, mother Florence Vegas, and brothers Percy Marie and William Vegas.
He is survived by his brother John Vegas II of Houma, LA, sister Pearly Jacobs of Pensacola, FL, daughter Leah Vegas Houma, LA, daughter Demi Roberts (Jamie) of Baldwyn, son Larry Joseph “L.J.” Vegas of Baldwyn and god-daughter Anjela Litle; his grandchildren, Hope Bourg of Chauvin, LA, Angel Bourg of Chauvin, LA, Andy Roberts (Abby) of Plantersville, Gracie Hughes, Drew Hughes; and his great grandchild Faith Roberts.
Services will be at Kesler Funeral Home in Baldwyn, MS with visitation from 12 – 2 p.m. and funeral services at 2 p.m. with Bro. Toby Mears officiating. Burial will be in Pratts Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Roberts, Dustin Johnson, Cody Johnson, Drew Hughes, Hunter Johnson, and Cooper Johnson.
