Baldwyn- Billy Smith Davis 91, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022. He was a graduate of Wheeler High School. Following high school he served 3 years in the United States Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Billy was a Lee County Supervisor for 20 years. He farmed and raised cattle his entire life. He served on the boards of Tombigbee Waterway and Regional Rehab. He was also one of the founders of Baldwyn State Bank and served on that board through the change to Union Planters Bank. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baldwyn.

Funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 1:00 p. m. with Dr. Gayle Alexander and Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be at Prentiss Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Doris M. Davis of Baldwyn; sister, Joyce Kimbrough of Baldwyn; children, James Clark (Heather) of Madison, MS, Monique Newman (Johnny) of Birmingham, AL and Niccole Clark of Tupelo; grandchildren, Justin Davis, Brent Davis (Amanda), Andrew Clark, Matthew Clark, Hannah Johnston (John), John Clark Newman and Ford Newman; (7) great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Yvonne Griffin Davis; son, Cecil Kip Davis; brothers, Gayle Davis, Wallace Davis and J. P. Davis; sister, Edith Davis Cruse.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Kimbrough, Herman Sumrall, Andrew Clark, Matthew Clark, Justin Davis, Jimmy Davis, Brent Davis and David Griffin.

Eddie Alexander will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 a. m. until service time @ 1:00 p.m.

  1. Dear Davis family, one of the saddest things someone can experience is the death of a loved one. Did you know the Bible compares death to sleep? (Psalms 13:3) Just as a person who is asleep is unaware of what is happening around him, the dead are not conscious of anything. There is a promise of hope in the Bible. Our loving God has promised to awaken the dead, as if from sleep, and give them life again. Acts 24:15 says, “There is going to be a resurrection.” The bible offers comfort for those who are grieving and I hope this brings you comfort as well.
