Stanley Barker

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Stanley Barker, 79, will be held at 4:00 pm Friday at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm to service time. Bro. Tommy Vinson will officiate.

Stanley passed away on December 23, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Corinth on August 17, 1943 to the late Varney Dupree and Jimmie Ross Barker. A proud member of the CHS class of 1962, Stanley was a talented basketball player. He was a welder and carpenter by trade, an avid motorcycle rider, a lover of the blues and a coach with both the YMCA and the very first soccer league at Corinth City Park. He served as a deacon at Oakland Baptist Church and later joined First Baptist Church. In his final years, he enjoyed traveling the country as a pipeline welder inspector, rejoining the trade he had loved the most.

He is survived by his two sons, Sean Barker of Raleigh, NC and Todd Barker (Mandi) of Corinth; granddaughter, Riley Barker; longtime companion and the mother of his children, Brenda Barker; sisters, Jackie Nelms, Janie Gant and Beverly Morton (Danny); his chosen family the Ni's of Parson, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy and Adron Barker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be John Lee Boyd, David Wooten, Larry King, Havis Hurley, Wendell Trapp, Jimmy Howell, Tommy Irwin, Troy Lancaster, Jerry Nixon, Ronald Windsor, Dr. Osvaldo Hans, Charlie Hodum and Milton Sandy.

He was a lifelong good Samaritan and a champion for the underdog, always giving of himself to help others.
