David Charles McKinney

Mr. David C. McKinney, 77, of Oxford, Mississippi, passed away February 1, 2023.

David was a graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon graduation, David served his country in the Vietnam War. Once he returned, he asked Herschel Taylor for his daughter’s hand in marriage. On March 20, 1967, David married the love of his life, Duffy (Meredith) Taylor McKinney. They were elementary school sweethearts. He was in the restaurant business before recruited to Oxford, Mississippi to continue his passion of managing local restaurants and expanding into managing multiple restaurants within the region. It was his passion and it showed. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his many hobbies which included: fishing, boating, skiing, riding motorcycles, woodworking, and restoring automobiles, traveling with friends to Talladega, and returning home every year to the Indy 500.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David W. McKinney and Mary Pauline Williams McKinney of Kirklin, Indiana; his sister, Mary Frances Nave of Plano, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Melony Alexander McKinney of Cleveland, Mississippi.

David is survived by Duffy (Meredith) McKinney; two children, David McKinney (Leah) and Cindy McKinney Callender (John) both of Wesson, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Jake McKinney (Sydney) of Meridian, Mississippi, Jason McKinney of Meridian, Mississippi, Clay and Madison Callender of Wesson, Mississippi, and Mason and Megan McGraw of Beaumont, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Eleanor Rose McKinney of Meridian, Mississippi.
