Jean Crosby

October 8, 1930 ~ February 18, 2023

Jean Elizabeth McCrory Crosby, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully on Saturday night, February 18, 2023.

Mrs. Crosby was a resident of Montgomery Assisted Living, Starkville, Mississippi. She was born in Monticello, Minnesota on October8, 1930.Her family sold their small hotel, moved to Tallulah, Louisiana,  where they purchased a farm. They had hopes of a warmer climate improving her daddy’s health. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after moving there. She was three years old. Her mother became the sole source of income, running the farm and teaching school. Jean grew up riding horses and loving her life on the bayou close to the Mississippi River bridge leading to Vicksburg. She graduated from Vicksburg High School and shortly there after met the love of her life, James Crosby. They married on September 8, 1948, continued schooling at Southern Mississippi College. They moved to Starkville where they both were Department heads of the printing department at the University… (James) and Jean at the Extension service for decades. She and her husband loved traveling and had many, many adventures. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, assisted in Communion preparation, took several mission trips to help with the Beautiful Feet Ministry, made quilts, and helped in various roles at the Walk to   Emmaus. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Pike Mom President and so much more.

She loved animals and had a well known dog, Trixie, who could count, add, subtract and performed at schools and many public functions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Crosby; her son, James W. (Jimbo) Crosby III; and son-in-law, David Sanders.

She is  survived by her daughter, Linda Crosby Sanders Mason (Roger); grandchildren, Leslie Sanders Cooper (Richard), J. Scott Sanders, Will Sanders (Ashleigh); great grandchildren James David Sanders, Ann Dalton Sanders, Elizabeth Head (Joe), Sean Michael O’Hara, Christopher Head and Jack Cooper.

Graveside Services will be held at Memorial Garden Park at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist, Starkville or First Baptist, Starkville MS.
