Meadie Cossitt

Jericho- Meadie O. Cossitt, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at her home. She was born January 16, 1933 to Ernest and Elizabeth “Lizzie” McDonald. She was their oldest daughter and had four brothers and four sisters, whom she loved dearly. She lived in the Jericho Community within walking distance of Jericho Baptist Church the majority of her younger and adult life. She walked to Jericho school where she graduated. She lived in Richmond, VA and Tupelo, MS 29 years before she moved back to Jericho in 2006. She moved in with her daughter, Sarah Hall and her husband, Dwight in December of 2020. Meadie was the matriarch of her family and kept them in touch with each other and extended family after her mom died several years ago at the age of 96. Her younger sisters, Martha and Linda thought of her as a mother. Meadie was a lifelong member of Jericho Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at Jericho Baptist Church on Sunday, April 02, 2023 at 4:00 P. M with Bro. Chris McCluskey officiating. Burial will be in Jericho Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her only biological daughter, Sarah Hall (Dwight) whom, she absolutely adored; grandchildren, Paul Hall Jr. (Susan) of New Albany, Jennifer Posey (Andy) of Jericho; great-grandchildren, Clay Hall (Alana), Brianna, Cecil, Jake and Kaiden Posey all of Jericho, and Carter, Avery, and Jack Hall of New Albany and one great-great-granddaughter, Kynzli Hall of Jericho; her sisters, Martha Humphreys (Eddie of Ellistown and Linda Pickens of Tupelo; her children through marriage, Mike Cossitt (Caity), Sherry Hillensbeck (Jack), Kevin Cossitt (Lori) all of Biloxi and Jan Cossitt of Clinton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also through marriage; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and kept in contact with.

She was preceded in death by her daughter’s father, James W. “Jake” Smith and two other husbands, James Z. Stinson and Paul Cossitt; sisters, Ernestine Langley Outlaw, Marie Black Blue; brothers, Milton, Bill, Miles and Bobby Jo McDonald who only lived 16 days.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of Jericho Baptist Church and Gene Witt.

Visitation will be at Jericho Baptist Church on Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Jericho Baptist Church, Sanctuary Home Hospice or a charity of your choice.
