Robert Dewey Bryan, passed away on May 18, 2023. He was born on January 28, 1928 in Starkville, MS to the “late” George and Ethel Bryan.
He was a graduate of Starkville High School, where he was co-captain of the high school football team. Robert graduated from Mississippi State University in the College of Business and Industry and also did his Master’s work in Merchandising.
He retired from Bryan Foods (Sara Lee Corporation) in West Point, MS as Vice President of Credit, Distribution & Purchasing. Earlier in his career, he had been a pilot for Bryan Foods. He also was a member of Starkville’s early Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Board of Directors of Bryan Airfield in Starkville, which is named for his brother, George M. Bryan, who died in World War II. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Guided Missiles. For years he was a member of the First Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Businessmen’s Bible Class, American Legion, and Jaycees.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Leigh Bryan; son, David Bryan; and two brothers, George M. Bryan and Jack Bryan.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Faye Simonton Bryan; son, George Morris Bryan (Monica) of Flowood, MS; grandson, Christopher Bryan (Leta) of Madison, MS; and three granddaughters, Cyndi Bryan and Heather Bryan, both of Water Valley, MS and Lindsey Brown of Pearl, MS; and two great grandchildren, Sadie and Sophie Bryan both of Madison, MS.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 22, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
