Ethel Johnson Boring, 78, born on February 25, 1945, to James Albert “Jabo” and Estelle Johnson in Kosciusko, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS.
Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and known as “Miss” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Kosciusko, she was a graduate of Kosciusko High School in 1963 and was selected as Miss Kosciusko High School. She also represented the town of Kosciusko in the Miss Mississippi pageant during the summer of 1963 where she was selected several awards, including Miss Congeniality. After attending and graduating from the University of Mississippi, she moved to Louisville, Mississippi and taught at Louisville High School before moving with her family to Starkville, Mississippi in 1988. It was while living in Starkville that she married her husband, Dr. Joseph Gregg Boring. She went on to teach at Starkville Academy for many years where she coached elementary physical education as well as several different sports including tennis, golf, and cheerleading. She loved being outdoors, golfing and playing tennis. Even though she lived in Starkville, Mississippi since 1988, she was an avid Ole Miss fan. She enjoyed family time at the lake and deer camp. She was a true outdoor enthusiast and loved fishing, hunting, and tending to her flowers. She also loved baking and traveling.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Gregg Boring; daughter, Caroline “Boo” Crawley Commer (Jimmy); her son, Davey Crawley (Vera); her step-daughters, Jennifer “Jenky” Boring Viner (Scott) and Deb Boring; her grandchildren, Clayton Moore (Jordan), Tanner Moore (Anna Claire), Declan Crawley, Anniston Crawley, Tipper Crawley, Norah Crawley, Margot Crawley, Catherine Fields and Jay Fields; her great-grandchildren, Emery Moore, Masyn Moore, and Demi Grace Moore; her brothers, Rudy Johnson (Pat), Tim Johnson (Lynn), and James Johnson; and her sister, Diane Johnson Thomas, in addition to numerous loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jabo and Estelle Johnson.
