Dorothy Jane Pennington DuBose, age 86, went to be with the Lord at Generations of Vernon on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Dorothy was born April 15, 1937 in Lamar County, Alabama to the late Clearman Pennington and Janie Hudson Pennington. Dorothy was married for 65 years to her late husband and love of her life, Grady DuBose.
Dorothy graduated from Lamar County High School. After marrying Grady, they moved to Crossville, Alabama, then to Fayette, Alabama before moving to Starkville, Mississippi, where they lived until November of 2021. At that time, both Dorothy and Grady moved to Generations of Vernon. While in Starkville, Dorothy was employed by Mississippi State University as a Payroll Clerk, where she retired in 2002.
An important part of Dorothy’s life was marked by love for her grandchildren. Trevor, Lauren and Casey. She also got to spend time with her four great grandchildren, AnnaGrace, Markin, Sutton and Greyson.
Dorothy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville, where she worshipped her Lord Jesus and made many life-long friends. She and her husband were faithful servants of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Troy DuBose; parents, Clearman Pennington and Janie Hudson Pennington; daughter, Lisa Dubose Alvis; and brother, Charles (Fay) Pennington.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Trevor Edmondson, Casey (Jody) Bell, and Lauren Cutrer; great grandchildren, AnnaGrace(11), Markin(8), Sutton(4) and Greyson(2); brother-in-law, Clanton (San) DuBose; sisters-in-law, Linda DuBose, Eula Mae DuBose and San DuBose; and special niece, Sue Pennington Hardy (Tim).
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Perry Pugh will conduct the service and music by Amy Burchfield. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
Pallbearers will be: Seth Hutton, Tom DuBose, Jody Bell, Jason DuBose, Tim Hardy, Clanton DuBose
