Dorothy “Dot” Ray Staten Sappington

Dorothy Ray Staten Sappington, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at NMMC Hospice in Tupelo. She was born June 30, 1931 to Johnny and Effie Ray Staten. Dot was a bookkeeper and homemaker. She was a faithful member of West Heights Baptist Church. Dot enjoyed mowing her yard and working in her flowers, and cooking for her family.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Robertson officiating; burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home Is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

Survivors include her two daughters-in-law, Jamie Owen Sappington and Brenda Helms Sappington; her two granddaughters, Dawn Sappington and Kortney Sappington; her three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Page, Alice Akers and PFC Colton Sappington USMC; five great-great grandchildren, Molly Kate Page, Jackson Matthews, Keegan Page, Maylee and Blaklee Akers; two nieces, Ann Scott and Jane Skelton and a nephew, Bobby Fancher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Demsey Sappington; her two sons, Jackie Ray Sappington and Christopher Sappington; a great-great granddaughter, Ellie Jayde Edwards and two sisters, Merrill Staten Hall and Ruth Staten Fancher.

Pallbearers will be Bill Rutledge, Joe DiDonna, Scott Dodson, Donald Wayne Scott, Brad Scott and Bobby Foreman.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 2 PM, Saturday at Browning Funeral Home.
