James Richard Hunkapiller, 81, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. He was born April 7, 1942, to Hubert and Annie Mae Hunkapiller. He was a Christian and member of Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church. He was a skilled outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting and successfully hunted 301 deer. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting, fishing, gardening, playing dominoes, and collecting antiques. He starred as an extra in the 1972 film Tomorrow.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Jones officiating and Jeff Humphreys delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra King (Allen Harris); his grandson, Eddie King; his granddaughter, Jessica Lewellen (Michael), his great-granddaughter, Lucy Lewellen; his great-grandson, Harrison Lewellen; his three sister-in-laws, Emma Floyd (Carl), Charlene Shockley, and Mary Shockley; and his brother-in-law, Johnny Pounds.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 56 years, Bessie Hunkapiller.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Allen Harris, Ray Livingston, Ray Huddleson, Jeff Humphreys, Michael Lewellen, and Billy Spencer.
