Dorothy Jean Laird Langston

February 6, 1932 ~ September 4, 2023

Dorothy Jean Laird Langston passed into her Savior’s welcoming arms on September 4, 2023, at the age of 91.

Dot was born February 6, 1932, in Mangham, Louisiana, to Charles Vernon and Edna Heath Laird, and older sister Irene Laird Morris. The family eventually moved to Columbia, Mississippi, where she met A. D. Langston Jr. They married on September 3, 1950, and celebrated 69 years together before A.D.’s passing in 2020. Dot and A.D. moved from their home in Purvis, Mississippi, to Starkville in 1966 and became active in First Baptist Church. They taught Training Union, and Dot also served with GAs, WMU, and the nursery and children’s ministries for many years. She loved teaching and encouraging young people, both in church work and everyday life; it was her special gift. She also worked in customer relations with Herschede Hall Clock Co., Phelps Dodge, MotorGuide, and hers and A.D.’s business, Golden Triangle Supply.

Her ability to relate to others and resolve issues made her successful in all her endeavors. But mostly, Dot was a devoted momma and mamaw to their four children, Steve (Linda) Langston, Charles (Mary Beth) Langston, Judy Langston White, and Debbie Langston Dearmon; grandchildren Lorin (Will), Tyson (Meredith), Kelly (Ryan), Jay, Kimberly, and Christopher (Jennifer); great grandchildren Tyler, Stormie, Landon, Caroline, Lexi, Emily, Nolan, Carter, Carlisle, Raymon, Bella, Chandin, Avery Kate, Paxton, and Major. She and A.D. selflessly gave of themselves in service to God and family always before themselves.

Dot was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister, great granddaughter Emily, and son-in-law Dennis White.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care and support of Gentiva Hospice nurses Melissa and Kayla and aides Leslie and Holly; and Sandra Ware.

The family will celebrate Dot’s life with a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 106 E. Lampkin St., Starkville, MS 39759.
