Selma Jean Starks Gann

Selma Jean Starks Gann, 85, of Calhoun City departed from this life on Friday, September 08, 2023, at Baptist Calhoun Nursing Home. She was born on July 29, 1938, in Water Valley, MS to the late William E. Starks and Lillie Mae Schmitz Starks.

Jean was a homemaker who spent her days looking after the needs of her family. Jean was a hard worker and worked for Kellwood and PEP in Houston. Jean was also a CNA for a number of years. In her spare time, she could be found working in her garden, tending to her flowers, or in her yard. She enjoyed doing crafts, cross-stitching, and most of all cooking for her family. She was a member of Trinity Bible Baptist Church.

She leaves behind three daughters: Sheila Walker of Amory; Teresa (Kermit) Dye of Calhoun City; Tonja (Mike) Wohlwend of Oxford; son, Donald (Shannon) Ellis of West End NC; brother, Laderll Starks of Derma; ten grandchildren: Chris Jones, Katrina Murphy, Nikki Dye, Toby Dye, Brandon Ellis, Josh Ellis, Amber Ellis, Douglas Jones, Kasie Jones Black, and Kaila Jones. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, William E. Starks and Lillie Mae Schmitz Starks; great-grandson, Sammie Black, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 09, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce. The funeral service honoring Jean's life will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Chad O'Brian officiating. Burial will follow in Bruce Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Toby Dye, Chris Jones, R. J. Rivera, Roger Schmitz, Tommy Schmitz and Tony Starks. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Ellis, Josh Ellis and Douglas Jones.
