Mr. Harold Vernon Jones, 77, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in West Hall of Waller Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born on April 7, 1946, to the late Ora Estelle Prestage and Harold Edward Jones. He retired from The University of Mississippi where he worked as a printer. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. As a Mississippi native, Mr. Jones found great peace and joy in mornings spent in the deer stand, and long days fishing on the lake. Each year, he took great pride in preparing and tending to his garden, and lovingly sharing his harvest with his entire family and friends. Mr. Jones embodied a sense of integrity and devotion to community that’s rarely found today. As President of the Board of Westover Water Association, he was a tremendous asset in making the association what it is today. No matter the time of night or holiday, he was always willing to answer the phone or the knocks at the door. It was deeply important to him that he do a good job and provide such an essential service to those in the community. Mr. Jones didn’t realize at the time of taking the job that it would become such a huge part of his life, bringing him many wonderful friendships and helping so many people. He and his wife, Sandra, shared 56 wonderful years of marriage together. They enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, taking on new experiences and creating many memories over the years. Mr. Jones was a loving and devoted father, but felt joy like no other when he became a “Pop”. He was crazy about each of his beloved grandchildren and his great-grandchild, and was filled with so much pride as he watched them grow. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra Byrd Jones of Oxford, MS; daughter, Kristy Jones Knight and her husband, Dennis, of Oxford, MS; son, Jeffrey Scott Jones of Oxford, MS; sister, Barbara Phillips of Jacksonville, NC; brothers, Tony Jones of Batesville, MS and Glen Jones of Marks, MS; four grandchildren, Ethan Knight, Colton Knight, Emilee Jones, and Lenee Campbell; and great-grandchild, Neddie Campbell.
