Dana Beard Brammer

Mr. Dana Beard Brammer, 91, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, in Oxford, MS. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Reverend Chris McAlilly of Oxford-University United Methodist Church and Pastor Emeritus Warren Black will officiate. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brammer, Director Emeritus of the Public Policy Research Center and Assistant Professor of Political Science, The University of Mississippi, was born July 2, 1932, in Huntington, WV, to Herman H. and Mabel Beard Brammer. He was reared in Burlington, OH, graduated from Marshall College, and earned an M.A. from The University of Alabama, where he was a Fellow in The Southern Regional Training Program in Public Administration. He retired from the University of Mississippi in 1997 with thirty-seven years of service.

A member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church since May 1962, Dana was active over the years in a number of organizations, including the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Southern Political Science Association, and the American Society for Public Administration.

In addition, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Oxford, a past chair of the Oxford Housing Authority Board, and a founding member of the Ole Miss Retirees Association.

He was a committed community volunteer who had many interests, but he especially enjoyed reading, travel, and time spent with family and friends.

Dana was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and two older brothers, Donald and James.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean Caines Brammer of Oxford, MS; a daughter, Nancy Brammer of Jackson, MS; two sons, Randal Brammer of Lacey’s Spring, AL and Steven Brammer of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Dan Glenn Williams IV and Charles Brammer Williams, both of Jackson, MS.
