Melanie Kemp Chesser

Melanie Kemp Chesser, 44, of Starkville, MS, passed away in her home on December 18, 2023. She was born in New Iberia, LA on September 3, 1979. Melanie attended Sturgis High School and graduated in 1998. She attended East Mississippi Community College majoring in interior design. Later, she became employed at Mississippi State University where she was an office associate with the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology. Since 2017, she has served as an administrative assistant in the Vice President’s office in the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.

Melanie is survived by her precious daughter, Carleigh Chesser; nephew, Tony Kemp; sister, Megan Kemp Russell; brother, Bill Wilson; uncle, Joe Lafoy; aunt, Sharon Lafoy; father, Bill Kemp; mother, Mio Kemp, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Melanie was not only a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, but also a beloved mother. Her heart was full of Jesus, and the love she had radiated out to all who knew her. She had an infectious smile and laugh that turned ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. She was loved by her family, friends, and her Bulldog family. She will forever be missed and cherished by all who knew her.

There will be a visitation Saturday, December 23, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
There will be a second celebration of life gathering for Melanie with the date and time to be announced at a later time.
