Clyde Nicklos “Nick” Russell, Jr.

Mr. Clyde Nicklos “Nick” Russell, Jr., 76, died Monday, January 1, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Oxford Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Chris McAlilly and Rev. Warren Black officiating. A reception will be held following the service from 2:30 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Oxford – University United Methodist Church.

Nick was born on May 4, 1947, in Yazoo City, MS, to the late Katherine Lehman Russell and Clyde Nicklos Russell, Sr. The family moved to Greenville, MS where he graduated from Greenville High School. Continuing his education, Nick attended Delta State University, earning his degree in Accounting. He taught for 5 years before beginning his 25 year career as a Sales Tax Auditor with the Mississippi State Tax Commission. Nick worked first for the Greenwood District, and then the Senatobia District after moving to Oxford in 1989. Upon settling into Oxford, he joined the Oxford – University United Methodist Church, where he found many dear friendships amongst his church family.

A true family man, Nick was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Together, he and his wife, Theda, had two sons, Zachary and Chris. Nick took great pride in raising his boys, passing on his fatherly wisdom and support at every possible need. As he led them from their teenage years into adulthood, he helped them through school, passing along his auditing and accounting knowledge and instilled in them both good morals and a positive way of thinking. Nick acted as a guiding light to them, always pointing them in the right direction, modeling a positive attitude, to treat others as you wish to be treated, and, most importantly, to never root for LSU or Alabama. His sons remember him most for his willingness to help them, no matter what they needed. Nick put his family first before anything else in life, and his unconditional love marked all that he did.

Nick is survived by his wife of 45 years, Theda Sneed Russell of Oxford, MS; two sons, Christopher Russell (Lauren Tolbert) of Water Valley, MS and Zachary Russell of Oxford, MS; a granddaughter, Rowan Tolbert Russell of Water Valley, MS; a sister, Nancy Waldrop (Lee) of Tupelo, MS; and a brother, James Russell (Christine) of Hurst, TX.
