Mattie Louise Hill Buchanan

Devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother, Mattie Louise Hill Buchanan, 78, of Bruce, Mississippi passed away peacefully at her home and entered Heaven’s gates singing on January 7, 2024.

Louise was born on November 8, 1945 to Luster Alvin Hill and Ruby Pearl Hill of Calhoun County, Mississippi. She devoted her life to caring for others and loved her work as a CNA. She treated patients like family and those who knew her remember her loving, kind nature. She loved to sing and dance, and after retiring as a CNA she could often be found with a group entertaining patients at the nursing home through music. She truly loved bringing joy to others and the beautiful smile she so often wore pays tribute to that memory.

She dedicated her life to serving the Lord. As a young girl, along with the help of her siblings, she started a small church in a goose pen that later resulted in the church planting of Schoona Valley Church. Before becoming a pastor’s wife at Hopewell, Louise was a faithful member of Mt. Comfort Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She spent her time spreading the gospel and working as the hands and feet of Christ through Bible drills with the youth, preparing meals, and using her God-given talent of artistry to paint a mural in the children’s room. She was faithful to give and instilled in her five children the importance of tithing. Even until the Sunday she passed, Louise attended thirty-two services at Parkview Community Missions near her home while on hospice.

An avid gardener and homemaker, Louise enjoyed tending to her flower beds and especially loved her zinnias and pansies. Like her own mother, Louise also enjoyed canning and would spend hours in the kitchen.
