Baldwyn- Lena Mae Johnson, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Pontotoc after an extended illness. She was a member of East Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baldwyn. Lena was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed immensely by all those that knew her. Prior to her declining health, she enjoyed gardening, activities with her Sunday School class, and going on annual beach trips with her sisters and nieces. Despite her failing health, Lena maintained her kind demeanor, often joking with those caring for her.
Visitation will be held at Waters Funeral home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with funeral to follow at 5:00 p.m. with Bro. Bill Adams and Bro. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Burial will be at East Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Lena is survived by her two sons, Richard Johnson (Debbie) of Troy Pontotoc, Bo Johnson of Baldwyn; 10 grandchildren, Jason Munlin (Kristi), Wendy Johnson (Rob), Jeremy Johnson (Angela), Jessie Tyra, Jeff Roberts, Shannon Pounds, Scott Roberts (Kristy), Breanna Stone (Paden), Kinsey Gann (John), and Paityn Johnson; four sisters, Betty Sue Vick, Louise Hardy, Peggy Miller, and Hellen Ricks; one brother, Harold Rodgers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Elmer Johnson; parents, Olan and Lillie Rodgers; daughter, Shirley Roberts; brothers, Ray Rodgers, James Rodgers, and Donald Rodgers.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
Visitation will be at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 – 5:00 p. m.
