Betty Ann (Baker) Newlin, 82, rose to join her beloved husband in the home of their Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Betty was born February 6, 1942 in Talladega, Alabama to William Troy and Viola Tooley (Williams) Baker. She graduated from Charlestown High School in Charlestown, Indiana, in the spring of 1959. Betty was just a junior in high school when she met the love of her life, Ronald Newlin. When he proposed after graduation, she had the good sense to say yes, and they married on August 28, 1960. After proudly supporting her husband through his military service, the young couple settled in Hobart, Indiana. In 1980, Betty began working in the River Forest school cafeteria, and worked her way up to School Secretary, where she was known by everyone to have a smile and a kind word. Betty was just as well known for her volunteer work. She served as Vice-President of both the Athletic Booster Club and Dollars for Scholars, and worked at hundreds of banquets, fairs, dances, fund-raisers and after school programs. Additionally, Betty was a Scout Leader and a GA (Girls in Action) leader for many years. In 1997, Betty and Ronnie made the decision to retire and moved to their new home here in Fulton, Mississippi, where she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, 5 of her 6 siblings, and her beloved husband of 63 years, Ronnie.
She is survived by her three sons, Tracy A. Newlin (Debbie) of Ochlockonee Bay, FL, Spencer O. Newlin (Cindy) of Valparaiso, IN, and Michael W. Newlin (Stacy) of Fulton; one sister, Mary K. (Baker) Barrett, of Fulton, MS; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton, MS, with Dr. Kevin Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home.
