Peggy Sue Eskridge Inman

October 10, 1936 ~ May 3, 2024

Mrs. Peggy Sue Eskridge Inman, 87, died Friday, May 3, 2024, at The Pinnacle of Oxford, MS. A visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home. A private burial will take place in Eastover Memorial Cemetery.

Peggy was born in her family home on October 10, 1936, in Delay, MS, to the late Jewell McCarty and Thomas Eskridge. A voracious reader, Peggy’s life rivaled the greatest adventure stories that could be found among her impressive library. In her early years, she and her friends would be driven to school by none other than William Faulkner. Many years later, she would organize several of her University High School reunions, where she’d gather with old friends to reminisce on their idyllic childhood in the South. Her Sunday School teacher at church was the famous Jerry Clower. During the Civil Rights Era, Peggy worked in the FBI Office in Mobile, AL, where she would witness firsthand what many have only read about in history books.

When her husband, Gordon’s, job took the family to Saudia Arabia for five years, Peggy quickly immersed herself in the culture, going as far as to join the local work force. Peggy developed a passion for traveling, going all over the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. She was courageous, full of life, and looked for any opportunity to challenge herself. Peggy became a certified scuba diver, obtaining special certification to dive in the Red Sea. While she’d experienced so much of the world and so many beautiful places, few things brought her as much joy as simple camping trips with her entire family. Of her many adventures, being a mother and grandmother was the one she was most proud of. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Inman.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Shari Murphree and her husband, Nathanael, of Cleveland, MS; sons, Charles “Chuck” Inman and his wife, Barbara of Oxford, MS and Martin “Marty” Inman and his wife, Alicia, of Oxford, MS; sister, Janie Maples of Chipley, FL; five grandchildren, Tim Inman (Josh Shipman), Brandi Inman, Embrey Jackson (Cody), Zachary Murphree, and Zoie Murphree.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to Memory Makers, 1558 Skyline Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.
