Roy Gene Rock

January 8, 1944 – July 8, 2024

PEACEFUL VALLEY – Roy Gene Rock, 80, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, July 8, 2024. Roy was born January 8, 1944, in Itawamba County to T.D. and Sue Rock. His early childhood was lived in Arkansas, but the family moved to the small delta town of Drew, MS, where Roy spent the rest of his adolescence. Roy was one of fourteen children and learned early how to love, play, and work hard. His humble beginnings cultivated a heart for faith, family, and provision at a very young age.

Roy met Dianne Bean, daughter of Coy and Clytee Bean, and was married June 16, 1967. In 1969, on Roy’s 25th birthday, he was drafted by the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. During his service he earned the Bronze Star and a Battlefield promotion for his outstanding leadership and bravery. Upon his return from service, he and his wife Dianne started their family and shortly thereafter his floor covering business. His family of four included Jason, Amy, Jamie, and Lacey. Rock’s Floor Covering was established in 1974, and is still serving Amory, MS, and surrounding areas today.

Roy was a devoted father, friend, and follower of Jesus. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and served in the Gideon Ministry for many years. Roy enjoyed many hobbies and the outdoors. He always had an ongoing project and enjoyed working with his hands. Pickwick was his little piece of heaven on earth, and fishing was in his blood. Baseball held a very special place in his heart and the ballfields brought him so much joy. He enjoyed many pastimes, but the greatest of these were spending time with his family, supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors, and praising God for the blessings of this life.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jackie Gray officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dianne Rock; his son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Beth Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Raymond Hoffman; daughter and son-in-law, Lacey and Jason Cox; 9 grandchildren, Benjamin, Hailey, and Jason Hoffman; Bo, Ace, Cole, and Drake Rock; and Joley and Jonah Cox; one great-grandchild, Wilder Hoffman; and his siblings, Patsy King, Brenda Huffman, Walter Rock, Thurman Jr. Rock, David Rock, Danny Rock, Nancy Watson.

Roy was preceded in death by his son, Roy Jason Rock; his parents, T.D and Sue Rock; brothers, L.D. Rock and Elijah Rock; and sisters, Emma Ruth Rock, Virginia Christian, Blanche Janet Rock, and Betty Guyton.

Roy's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
