Cheryl Seal Burnett passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on January 9, 1951 to Juanita and Gilbert Seal and was raised on a farm in the Cumberland Mountains of Speedwell, Tennessee. After graduating from Powell Valley High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Library Science from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a Master of Education from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, all with honors. She then received an AAA Specialist Certification in Education from the University of Mississippi.
Cheryl met her husband, Mac, while they were both students in Knoxville. They married on July 6, 1974 and moved to Bruce raising their two children, Beth and Bill.
She was a teacher and librarian for 36 years, one year in Milan, Tennessee, and the remaining years in Bruce, Mississippi.
Cheryl was a lifelong Methodist, raised and married at Cawood Methodist Church in Speedwell. She was a dedicated member of Bruce United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher for youth and adults for many years, as well as the youth group leader.
She loved to read, tend to her flowers and plants, and travel, a love that she passed on to her children.
Left behind to cherish Cheryl’s memory include her husband of 50 years, Mac Burnett of Bruce; her daughter, Beth Burnett McNutt and husband, Bill, of Tupelo, MS; her son, Bill Burnett and wife, Kristen, of Madison, MS; and her sister, Kim Seal of Speedwell, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Gilbert Seal.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July, 20, 2024 at Bruce United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lynn Mote officiating. Graveside will follow at Collums Cemetery in Bruce. Parker Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Carter, Michael Cook, Bill Embry, Greg Gillis, Ben Pratt, Charlie Spradling, Billy Jack Stewart II, Royce Tidwell, and Scott Watkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bruce United Methodist Church or to the Gideons.
