August 8, 1961 ~ October 7, 2024

Mr. Lee Edward Reid, III, walked into the arms of Jesus on Monday, October 7, 2024, at his home in Madison, MS. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at North Oxford Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Nowell and Dr. Gary Richardson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will follow the service in Eastover Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lee was born on August 8, 1961, in Tunica, MS, to the late Virginia Moore and Lee Edward Reid, Jr. A graduate of The University of Mississippi Class of 1984, he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree of Business Management and Marketing. A proud alumni and lifelong fan of the Rebels, Lee was known by many as the Ole Miss Whistler. While he was calm in spirit, he had an ear-piercing whistle that he would employ during every football game to cheer on the Rebs. Friends and strangers alike would tell Lee that they would spend more of the game watching him than the football, finding great joy and entertainment in his pride for his team.

Lee and his wife, Tammy, returned to Oxford in 2000, quickly becoming fixtures in the community. He worked for over 33 years in management at Sherwin Williams Company, where he held many friendships among his coworkers and customers. Upon his retirement, many expressed the impact that Lee’s steadfast positivity and faith had on their life. He was a beloved member of North Oxford Baptist Church, serving as Chairman of the Deacons, Royal Ambassador Leader, and on numerous committees. Lee was featured in Lifeway’s devotional magazine, Stand Firm, for his unwavering commitment to the faith. He was in constant service to the Lafayette County community, serving on the Board of Review for the Eagle Scouts of America, as a member of the Lion’s Club and the Ole Miss Alumni Association.

The defining factor of Lee’s life was his devotion to his Lord, family, church, and community. He was an ever-present husband and father, and was affectionately known as “Buzz” by his beloved grandchildren. He took great pride in his role as the spiritual leader of his home. It was deeply important to him that he model for his daughter, Ashlee, how to live out the Christian faith daily. When Lee saw a need to help, he immediately did everything he could to fill the need with grace and compassion, and did so quietly and without desire of recognition.

In Lee’s personal Bible, he’d inscribed the note, “Faith, family, plan, priorities, prize.” These words exemplified the order in which he lived. He loved his people well, served others, and his family finds great comfort knowing that he has finally received his prize, living in the eternal presence of God.

Lee is survived by his wife of 40 years, Tammy A. Reid of Madison, MS; his daughter, Lauren Ashlee Reid Jacobs and her husband, Patrick, of Madison, MS; siblings, Russell Reid of Chattanooga, TN, Cathy Reid Harrell (Mike) of Oxford, MS, Janet Reid Nowell (Stan) of Chattanooga, TN, and Stanley Reid (Emily) of Oxford, MS; and his grandchildren, Reid Carlton Jacobs, Virginia Ruth Reid Jacobs, and Baby Jacobs’ arrival in February 2025.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Lee’s memory may be made to Forgotten Children Ministries, Post Office Box 36399, Birmingham, Alabama 35236, or online at www.fcmhonduras.org.
