John David Milam

Mr. John David Milam, 78, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Quarles officiating. Burial will follow in Church Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M.

John was born on May 8, 1946, in Water Valley, MS to the late David Lee and Clara Thomas Milam. He was a longtime member of College Hill Heights Baptist Church for over 40 years where he faithfully served as a Deacon and as Discipleship Training Director. His dedication to his church was ever present in his willingness to assist and lead in any capacity needed. John had a long career with the United States Department of Agriculture where he worked as an Instrument Maker Machinist in the Agriculture Research Service. As an active member of his community, he gave his time to serving as President of the Taylor Water Association and was often seen tending to his garden, hunting and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Carpenter Milam; a sister, Stella White and two brothers, Dudley Milam and Robert Milam.

John is survived by his son, Randall Scott “Randy” Carpenter of Oxford; a daughter, Dana George and her husband, Michael of Harmontown, MS; four sisters, Josephine Stephens of Sardis, MS, Avis Whitt of Randolph, MS, Agnes Holloway of Greenwood, MS and Winnie Cyr of Ponchatoula, LA; a brother-in-law, Lyndon Carpenter and his wife, Brooke of Starkville, MS; two grandchildren, Kana Ivy and her husband, D.J. of Oxford, MS and Kimberly Zuniga of Harmontown, MS along with four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
