July 22, 1937 ~ October 21, 2024

Mrs. Zana Lee Thompson Moore, 87, passed from this earthly life on Monday, October 21, 2024, at her home in Abbeville, Mississippi. What a reunion at Heaven’s gates early yesterday morning as Zana was met by her Lord and Savior and her beloved Jerry. Jerry was her beloved soulmate and ministry partner for many years. Zana was also greeted by two of her three children – Jay and Lynda. What a joyful reunion!

The funeral will be Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church. Visitation will be held prior the service beginning at 12:00 P.M. with Bro. David Shackleford and Rev. Buster Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Eastover Memorial Cemetery. To the many friends who would love to be at the service but are unable to attend, you may watch the service through New Prospect Baptist Church’s Facebook page.

Zana was born on July 22, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Annie Maude Hinesley and Fred Hugh Thompson, Sr. She was best known in the Memphis area for her business, Mrs. Zana’s Daycare. Throughout her years of service in the community, she earned the trust of many parents and the admiration of the children in her care. Her nurturing and warm spirit put others at ease, and she cared for each child as if they were her own.

Zana had been cared for by her sweet daughter, Melanie since losing her husband, daughter, and son. At the time of her passing, she and Melanie were watching her church’s Facebook live service from New Prospect Baptist Church when Melanie looked over and Zana had met her Savior while worshipping Him. Zana loved worshipping her Lord and serving Him faithfully. She had a heart for missions and used her gift of singing to praise the Lord because she always longed to serve Him with her life. Zana was loved by all. Her sweet spirit ministered to many hearts over the years as she would share her testimony of surviving thyroid cancer, the many mission trips she took with her husband, and ministering to the many church families that God had placed in her and Bro. Jerry’s life. She was a faithful servant and a wonderful pastor’s wife. Her love for the Lord, her service to the Lord and her dedication to being a supportive pastor’s wife and servant to her Lord were always on the forefront of Zana’s heart and mind. Zana faithfully shared her experiences of this life to bring God honor and glory. Zana’s legacy will live on through her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was one of God’s great jewels and a virtuous, godly woman. It showed in everything she did. To those who knew her, loved her, cherished her and will remember her for years to come.

In addition to her parents, Zana was preceded in death by her lifetime spouse of 67 years, Jerry Dean Moore; her son, Jerry “Jay” Moore, Jr.; and her daughter, Lynda Walker.

Zana is survived by her daughter, Melanie Murry (Lee) of Abbeville, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Fuller (Bubbie) of Abbeville, MS, Shane Parker (Brittany) of Ingomar, MS, Daniel Young of Sarasota, FL, Samuel Young of Virginia, and Kaitlyn Moore of St. Louis, MO; as well as a host of great-grandchildren.
