After a valiant fight against Parkinson’s disease, followed by a brief illness, Mr. Tommy Alan Haskins, 73, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Oxford, MS. The funeral will be Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Campbell and Rev. Don Gann officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. in West Hall of Waller Funeral Home.
Tommy was born in Waynesboro, TN on February 18, 1951. Moving to Oxford, MS later in life, a piece of his heart remained in Hohenwald, TN, a town where his ancestors were some of the original Swiss settlers
In his professional life Tommy was an accomplished geologist with the Army Corps of Engineers-Nashville District. He worked on various projects including the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway in Northern MS and Wolf Creek Dam in Kentucky.
He received his formal education at TN Tech in Cookeville, TN, and the University of Missouri in Rolla, MO, but his love of learning never ended. He loved history, all languages, geography, and was always working on special projects, usually several at the same time. Most recently he designed and was very involved with the building of his dream home in Oxford, MS.
Tommy loved people and made everyone in his life feel important. He never met a stranger, was kind to everyone, and always rooted for the underdog. He was a passionate fan of the Ole Miss Rebels and would have loved to be at the game this past weekend where they soundly defeated the Georgia Bulldogs. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Kistler and James Redmond Haskins.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Tammie Haskins of Oxford, MS; his daughter, Lindsay Haskins Ware (Larken) and their four children, Caroline, Julia, Hallie, and Anna, of Oxford, MS; sister, Trinace Haskins Campbell (Bill) of Murfreesboro, TN; a niece, Eryn Campbell Wilson (John) and their children, Avery, Reed, and Campbell Claire; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bennett (Roger) and Lana Cass; as well as a host of cousins and close friends.
Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Tommy’s memory may be made to Lewis County Historical Society, Post Office Box 703, Hohenwald, Tennessee 38462.
