Faye Fudge passed away on February 24, 2025, in Oxford, Miss. after a brief illness. She was 93. A private graveside service was held at Oxford Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Don Gann officiating.
Mrs. Fudge was born in Lafayette County, Miss. on December 21, 1931, to the late Joe and Lillie (née Jeffreys) Wood. She graduated from Macedonia High School in Union County, Miss. in 1949 and married Jack Fudge in 1953. He preceded her in death.
Faye was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother who actively participated in her children’s lives serving as a Girl Scout troop leader, Cub Scout den mother, Oxford Music Club mom, and by living next door to Avent Park she patched up just about every scraped knee there in the 1960s.
She made lifelong friends while serving as a telephone operator for Southern Bell, now AT&T; worked as a sales consultant at Noel M. Hodge Furniture; and served on the staff of Dr. William Baker’s dental practice. As a volunteer, she was involved with the Mississippi AARP Health Program and Oxford Jaycettes, among other organizations. Faye and Jack were co-founders of the Oxford ChikfilA Senior Bingo Group.
Faye was a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford for 70 years and attended Sunday School there. She was a master seamstress, quilter and avid gardener. She instilled her love of nature in her children and delighted in making very detailed dresses and quilts for her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her daughter, Jacque Fudge of Panama City Beach, Fla.; son, Jeff Fudge and his wife, Sonya, of Destin, Florida; three grandchildren, Sarah Kate (Domenico), Molly (Andrew) and Jacob; and four great grandchildren, Gigi, Beck, Hutton and Athena; and several loving nieces and nephews. Special gratitude for niece Patricia Hamilton that has been there for mother providing selfless devotion throughout the years.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Winford, Robert, Leon and Frank Wood; and her sisters, Marie Gillis and Betty Waldrop.
The family would to thank Ann’s Angels for their dedication, extraordinary care and love for our mother. Thank you to Dr. Shaun Helmhout and Leigh Ann of Gentiva Hospice for their caring professionalism.
