Clara Katie Goodwin

lara Katie Goodwin, of Banner, MS passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at Bruce Community Living Center, at the age of 96. Born on June 1, 1928, Clara was a lifelong resident of the area, where she cultivated a deep love for the land and the beauty of nature.

Katie's passions were many; she found immense joy in gardening, nurturing her plants, and delighting in the fruits of her labor by canning vegetables. Her hands, skilled in both gardening and quilting, created not only sustenance but warmth in the form of lovingly crafted quilts. A voracious reader, Clara cherished her quiet moments spent immersed in books, often accompanied by her hummingbirds, which brought her endless pleasure as she watched them flit gracefully from flower to flower.

Katie will be lovingly remembered by her family, including her daughter Donna Goodwin and son Bill Goodwin, her cherished sister Barbara Lantrip and sister Carolyn Hallman, and her beloved granddaughter Kimberly Hawkins. The ties of family and lifelong friendships were the threads that wove through her remarkable life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Goodwin, father, Hollis Emmett Cain, mother, Ethel Leachman Cain, sisters, Martha Covington,  Ruthell Norwood, Celestine Dye, Johnnie Weeks, brothers, Charles Cain, Kenneth Cain, and two great grandchildren, Emmett Joe Logan, Hooper James Poynor.

A funeral service will be held in her honor on May 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Smith and Bro. Craig McCormick officiating. Prior to the service, a public viewing will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM on the same day for those wishing to pay their respects. Clara will be laid to rest in Memory Memorial Garden of Bruce, MS. Jason Cain, Randy Cain, Terry Cain, Tommy Cain, Jeremy Hillhouse, Jr. Hillhouse, Carlton Leachman, and Johnny Norwood will be serving as pallbearers.

As we gather to celebrate her life, we invite family and friends to share their memories of Clara, a woman who embodied love and kindness, and whose spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her memory forward.
