Sarah Swanson

Sarah Swanson, born on August 29, 1945, in Vardaman, Mississippi, gently passed away on April 29, 2025, at the age of 79. A beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, Sarah was a cherished resident of Water Valley, Mississippi, where she touched many lives with her warmth and kindness.

As a dedicated homemaker, Sarah invested her heart and soul into her family, finding joy in caring for those she loved. She was known for her love of crocheting, creating beautiful handmade pieces that will now serve as cherished memories for her family. Sarah also had a passion for words, often found engaging in crossword puzzles and Sudoku, and pouring her heart into writing poetry that resonated with those who were fortunate enough to read it. Her soul found solace in the uplifting melodies of gospel music, which filled her home with love and peace.

Sarah was a proud member of New El Bethel Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and formed lasting friendships within her community. She leaves behind her beloved son, James Swanson of Water Valley, MS, along with her cherished grandchildren: Dayka Briscoe, Kara (Ben) Barbee, Cassie Williams, and J.P. Williams. Sarah is also survived by her devoted sisters, Monette Gann and Frances Simmons, who will always hold her memory close to their hearts.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, James Swanson, mother, Myrtis Mitchell Hicks, father, James Hicks, and a daughter, Angela Williams.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
