Mary Jo Hall Sneed

Mrs. Mary Jo Hall Sneed, 91, died Thursday, May 8, 2025, at her home in Oxford, Mississippi. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Sammy Gossett officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. Burial will follow the service in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.

Mary Jo was born on March 9, 1934, to the late Linda Carwile and Willie Earl Hall. A life-long resident of Oxford, Mississippi, she graduated from University High School in 1953. She enjoyed a career working for local doctors where she met many of her dearest friends. One of the greatest moments of her life was when she married her soulmate, J.M. Sneed, on March 30, 1956. They enjoyed 58 years of loving marriage until J.M.’s death in 2014.

Mary Jo was also a founding member of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. She loved studying family genealogy, growing flowers, delighting in her beautiful yard that burst with blooms, and she enjoyed caring for the hundreds of hummingbirds that would visit her feeders each year. More than anything else, Mary Jo cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, loving them more than words can express.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Menken “J.M.” Sneed, and her siblings, Patricia Lynn Hall Dodds, and her husband Robert, Wendell Earl “Bud” Hall and his wife Jo, Billy Eugene Hall, and Danny Porter Hall.

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Susan Caldwell and her husband, Scott, of Oxford, Mississippi; sons, Gary Sneed and his wife, Terri, and David Sneed and his wife, Kathy Jo, both of Oxford, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Virginia Hall, Mary Sneed Burks, Jimmie Sneed, Billie Sneed, and Frankie Sneed, and one brother-in-law, Johnny Burks; as well as 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
