Donald Everett Unsell, age 89, passed away on November 26, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi, where he resided over the last decade to be close to his daughter. A proud Tennessean, Don was born on June 18, 1936 in Kentucky, and grew up in Camden, TN, where he spent most of his life forming the lifelong friendships and community connections he cherished so dearly.
Don honorably served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Tennessee Valley Authority in New Johnsonville, from which he later retired. Committed to service, he also served with Camden Fire, Benton County Rescue Squad (one of the founding members of 1969) and Auxiliary Police. Known for his warmth, sincerity, and unfailing kindness, Don truly never met a stranger. He had a gift for keeping up with “his people” back home in Camden, always carrying a deep love for his community and the many friends he made along the way.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Aquino of Oxford, MS; his stepsons, Shane Steele of Texas and Michael Steele of Paris, TN; his grandchildren, Siobhan and Zaiden Aquino of Oxford, MS; Austin, Tanner, and Hunter Steele of Texas and his nephews, Charles Jobe of Nashville, Eddie Jobe of California, and niece Christy of Clifton, TN. He also leaves behind many treasured friends and extended family members who were blessed by his presence. Don is preceded in death by numerous loved ones whom he remembered faithfully throughout his life.
Don was good and great to all he encountered—steadfast, generous, and genuinely welcoming. His legacy lives on in the many people he touched with his humor, loyalty, and gentle spirit.
Memorial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
