Glenn was born in Lafayette County on October 19, 1940, to the late Vettra Curtis and Louise Mathis Alderson. After graduating from University High School in 1959, at Ole Miss he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and later served as its Chapter Advisor. In 1963, he earned his Bachelor of Public Administration degree and in 1966, his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Mississippi.
Glenn served as Chancery Judge in the Eighteenth Judicial District of North Mississippi from 1999 to 2018. In 1988, he served as Municipal Judge for the City of Oxford until 1999. At age 27, he was the youngest elected Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney and served until 1984. He spent 33 years as a practicing attorney with the late Edwin Perry. During his time of practicing law, he served as President and Vice-President of the Lafayette County Bar Association and was past member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Junior Bar Association, and later was celebrated for his 50 years of service by the Mississippi Bar Association. While devoting his time to the Oxford-Lafayette County community he also fulfilled a role as President of Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and was involved in other civic organizations within the community.
In his earlier years, he raised cattle, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and collected antique cars. Additionally, he began his business ventures in purchasing rental property and land and first opened and co-owned the Square Arcade from 1981 through1984.
He deeply loved his family and the community of Oxford and Lafayette County, and loved serving other families where he was often referred to as the “protector of childrens’ rights.” We will fondly remember his humorous story-telling and candid, outspoken presence. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he was completely devoted to them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Amber Jo “Jackie” Lovell Alderson; sisters, Virginia Johnson and Ann Locke; brothers, George Presley “Brother” Alderson and Harry Alderson; and grandson, James Brett Alderson.
