Evelyn Anne Jaynes Asger, aged 76, of Oxford, Mississippi, died December 17, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Anne was the daughter of the late Rev. William Asger and Evelyn Thomas Asger.
Anne was born on Dec. 31, 1948, in Canton, Mississippi, and grew up in Laurel, Mississippi, where she attended St. John’s Day school, later graduating from All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg. There she became known as “Asgah-Babes” because she was the youngest in her class. She then attended Ole Miss where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity and graduated with a BA in Elementary Education. She was blessed to have made lifelong friends from all three schools.
Anne spent most of her teaching career in Ocean Springs, again meeting wonderful friends. She later relocated to Oxford after losing her home to Hurricane Katrina. Back in Oxford, she reconnected with friends from both high school and college, met many new friends, and became involved with all that Oxford has to offer. Her years back in Oxford were some of the happiest of her life. She enjoyed the wonderful community she found in her beloved city, enjoyed being a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where her father was rector from 1949-1953, was involved in the Cedar Oaks Guild, and, of course, she loved everything Ole Miss.
Her friends were also her family, and she loved to entertain as well as to be entertained. Anne enjoyed having a good time with those she loved! She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Her kindness, generosity, and exceptional sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her!
Along with her “family of friends”, Anne is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Catherine Asger, her nephews, Jake Asger and Brooks Asger (Emma), her niece, Chanie June (Adam), her great nephew, Roe Asger, and her great nieces, Evelyn “Evie” June and Annie Blair Asger.
She will be greatly missed by us all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
