Jerry Lee Duckett

July 20, 1938 ~ February 19, 2026

Jerry Lee Duckett, 87, passed away peacefully at Sanctuary Hospice House on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He retired from Tupelo Park & Recreation, where he faithfully served as the keeper of the Oren Dunn Museum.

Jerry’s life was anchored in his deep faith, his love for his family, and the friendships he treasured. He was first married to Carolyn McKnight, with whom he shared many meaningful years, and together they built the foundation of his family as the loving parents of their twin children.

Jerry later married his soulmate, Kathy Duckett, with whom he shared a beautiful and steadfast love—one so evident that “only God could love them more than they loved each other.” Jerry loved with his whole heart, and his life was a living example of devotion, kindness, and generosity.

He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and made certain that every moment spent with them was memorable. He shared with them many of his greatest joys, including time spent at the cabin, fishing, and perfecting the art of the fish fry. Jerry encouraged those he loved to slow down and savor life—whether watching westerns, enjoying a good steak, or mastering the proper way to twist and dip Oreo cookies.

He loved big and lived steady, leaving behind stories, traditions, and a legacy overflowing with love. To know him was to love him—and perhaps more importantly, to be certain that he loved you. Jerry was a devoted member of Tupelo First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Tupelo First Baptist Church with visitation from 1 pm to 3 pm. Bro. Matt Powell will be officiating. Burial will follow in East Mt. Zion Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Duckett; the two children he shared with Carolyn—his son, Kerry Duckett (Mitzie), and his daughter, Sherry Curle (Jimmy Szczepanski); as well as his daughters, Darlene Griffin (Bimbo) and Tonya McCraw (Sammy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great‑grandchildren, along with a host of other cherished family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn McKnight; his parents, W. F. and Alice Eller Duckett; his granddaughter, Corie Duckett; four brothers; and one sister.

Pallbearers will be Bimbo Griffin, Gaston Griffin, Canaan Griffin, Justin Swain, Mitchell Bridges, Anthony Rainwater. Johathan Curle and Kaden Curle.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
