Mrs. Virginia Ferrell Evans, 94, died Friday, April 3, 2026, at her home in Oxford, MS. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Brother Michael P. Daniels officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. Burial will follow in North Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Evans was born April 16, 1931, in Denmark, MS to the late Thomas Alva and Zula Ferrell. She was married to Frank A. Evans for 73 years before his passing in 2022. They were founding and devout members of North Oxford Baptist Church, attending since the church gathered in a tent at 3-Way. In addition to being a housewife, Virginia kept children in her home for many years. These babies grew up loving “Mama Evans” and thought of her as much as family as their own. Virginia was a great cook and baker. In later years, she was unable to cook the wonderful meals her family so enjoyed. The family would say “..if we could just sit down to one more of her home-cooked meals, how wonderful it would be!”
Together they raised a family and found great joy in life’s many blessings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas “Buddy” Ferrell; and a grandson, Cameron Cooper.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Cooper and her husband, Phil of Oxford, MS and Doris Hodge and her husband, Mack of Pontotoc, MS; and a grandson, Kevin Cooper of Oxford, MS.
The family would like to express how grateful they are to Hearts of Love for a year of excellent care for Mrs. Evans. Betty White, Bettye Herron, Jackie Bibbs, Javon “Punkin” Logan, Sue Stepp, and Nicole Wilson, your love and dedication will always hold a special place in our hearts.
