Margaret Ann Shields Jones, 74, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Monroe Regional Hospital in Aberdeen. Margaret Ann was born on September 19, 1945 in Monroe County to John and Olean Stevens Shields. A graduate of Smithville High School, she also graduated from IJC and the University of Mississippi where she was a dorm mother, earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Margaret Ann married the love of her life, Dwight Jones and spent several years in Louisiana teaching in the Slidell school system. She and Dwight moved back to Monroe County where she taught third grade in the Amory and Aberdeen schools, retiring after 25 years of service. Margaret Ann had a great love for people and she was known area wide while she worked many years as a receptionist at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home. To say she loved everything Ole Miss would be an understatement. Fall was her favorite time of year as she would decorate her patio to enjoy cool Saturdays watching her Rebels play. She loved to play Bunko and she made countless friends with whom she loved visiting. Margaret Ann was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Amory.
Private funeral services will be held for Margaret Ann. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is honored to be able to serve.
She is survived by her special friends, Tammy, Tony, and Summer Sharplin; Thelma Rutherford; Phyllis and Jim Williams; John Turner; Tony Poss, Tammy Pigg, Patsy Frederick, Jacqueline Hathcock, and Donna Steverson; and a host of other friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Jones.
