Sadie Juanice Stewart

June 12, 1931 ~ July 2, 2026

Sadie Juanice Stewart, 95, of Paris, MS, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. A celebration of Sadie’s life and love will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Elder James Hall officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New El Bethel Cemetery.

Born on June 12, 1931, in Potlockney, MS, Sadie was the cherished child of John Cornish Barbee and Rozelle Davis Barbee. Throughout her 95 years, her greatest pride and joy was always her family.

Sadie’s home was a place of warmth, laughter, and endless support. She was a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, a doting great-grandmother, and a blessed great-great-grandmother who never missed a chance to celebrate her loved ones. She will be remembered most for her love and dedication to her church and family and the five generations of family legacy she built.

Sadie’s love lives on through her daughters, Paula May of Hernando, MS, Barbara Hudson (Ricky) of Paris, MS and Joyce Mitchell (Paul) of Oxford, MS; her son-in-law, Joel Howell of Hamilton, AL and her brother, James Hugh Barbee (Paulette) of Oxford, MS.

She is also survived by a beautifully blended family of eight grandchildren, Brian May (Amanda) of Starkville, MS, Jason May (Kristy) of Hernando, MS, Molly Wright (Cory) of Huntsville, AL, Melissa Dorris (Stacy) of Oxford, MS, Micky Hudson of Coldwater, MS, Maggie Mitchell of Brooklyn, NY, Katy Mitchell of Charleston, SC and Annie Laurie Mitchell of Oxford, MS; ten great-grandchildren, Kylie May (Kris Cook), Avery May, Callie May Dulin (Canaan), Ella May, Landrum May, Emma Wright, Addison Wright, Hunter Dorris, Bailey Dorris and Andrew Dorris and one great-great-grandchild, Leighton Cook.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cortez Stewart; her daughter, Pam Howell; her son-in-law, Lanny May; and her parents, John Cornish Barbee and Rozelle Davis Barbee.

In honor of her generous heart, donations may be made to New El Bethel Church, 15 CR 488, Oxford, MS 38655.
