Dennis, MS – William Hugh Greene, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3, 2026. William was born on May 31, 1941, in Prentiss County to Herman and Vivianne Greene. He was the owner and operator of Will’s Trucking in Tupelo, MS, and was known by his fellow truckers as “Little Willie”. William worked for many years in Birmingham, AL, as a diesel mechanic. After moving back to MS, he worked in maintenance at Bay Springs chip mill and retired from there as a security guard. He enjoyed fishing, family fish fry’s, gardening, canning, making peanut brittle and chow-chow, trading trucks, and spending time with his family and friends; especially his grandson, Alex. William worshiped with the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ congregation in New Site, MS.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Doretha Gentry Greene; his parents Herman and Vivianne Greene; mother and father-in-law, James and Nona Gentry; Brothers, JW Greene (Evonelle), Jimmy Lane Greene, Lamar Greene, Huey Greene and Lynn Greene; Sisters, Nellie Simmonds (Irv), Rachel Rossi (Frank), Louise Panis, Patsy Chapple (Leon), Joyce Barber (Calvin) and Nancy Mortimer; Brother-in-law, Clarence Thomas and Sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson (Josie).
He is survived by his son, William “Hugh” Greene, Jr., (Venessa); grandson, Alex Greene of Dennis; Sisters, Lou Della Thomas of Booneville, Tricia Hancock (Hal) of Tupelo; Sister-in-law, Sarah Greene of Marietta, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and dear friends.

Services will be on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Waters Funeral Home, Baldwyn, MS
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Services at 3:00 pm. Services conclude at Waters Funeral Home, no graveside services. Burial at Zion Rest Cemetery in Marietta, MS.
