Deacon Lonzo Sargent Howell, 77, transitioned on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his home in Myrtle, MS. He was born on May 11, 1943 in Myrtle, MS, to the late Curvey and Roberta Howell.
On July 8, 1966, Lonzo married the love of his life Threeth Ann Taylor. They had fifty-four years together. Even though his wife was stricken early in life with an illness, he stood by her faithfully with love and care to his dying day. One daughter, Leona, was born to this union.
He was doing what he loved best, working in his garden when he transitioned to eternal spiritual rest on July 16, 2020. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church in Hickory Flat, MS. Later after moving to Rockford, IL, he united with Greater Hope M.B. Church, where he served faithfully in the choir, and was a Junior Deacon. After moving back to Mississippi, he joined Zion Chapel M.B. Church, where he served faithfully until hid death. He loved serving his Lord, and church family. Lonzo served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher for the Young Peoples' Class, Baptist Training Union Director, member of the Adult Choir, Male Chorus, Chairman of the Julius Dozier Memorial Scholarship Fund, Vacation Bible School Director, and VBS volunteer. He was also the designated "Fish Fryer" for the 4H Club, community fish fry and church picnic. Whatever he was asked to do he did his best.
Lonzo loved to help people. He loved nature, and he loved farming. He raised many animals. He was a giver. He blessed others through the blessings that God gave him. Lonzo was concerned about his community and he checked on the elderly friends whenever possible. Often time, dropping off meat from a fresh hog kill or vegetables from his garden, or eggs from his chickens.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife: Threeth Howell, a daughter: Leona (Rev. Carl) Dozier, grandchildren: Whitney (Monty) Jackson and Tre' (La'nell) Dozier, brother: C.L. (Patsy) Howell, sisters: Dovie Marion, Katie Howell, Elnora Braxton, and a brother-in-law: Frenchie Taylor, sisters-in-law: Lillian Burton, Alma Taylor, Annie Hooks, Bobbie Webber and Lillie Hampton, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Julius Jerome Dozier, and brothers: Roy, George, Willie, Jessie and sisters; Mackie and Maggie.
Bro. Lonzo leaves a legacy of humbleness and service to his church family and community, always ready to lend a helping hand, encouragement in practical things to the younger generation and tender-loving care to his wife. To God be the Glory for the life of Deacon Lonzo Howell.
