Husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Linder G. McNeely died in Oxford, Mississippi on August 29, 2020. A private family service will take place at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford.
Linder was born in the Keel Community of Lafayette County on August 20, 1936, the youngest child of Samuel and Mable Spence McNeely. After a 40 year career in the insurance business he retired to spend more time with the love of this life, Rachael. They had a wonderful 65 year marriage. He later went to work at the Lafayette County Sheriff’s office, working for Buddy East.
Linder leaves behind a legacy of achievement and a positive mark on the Oxford community. The three most important things to Linder were faith, family, and service. He was an active member of North Oxford Baptist Church for 56 years teaching R.A.’s, training union, Sunday School, as well being a deacon. In the community he served on the Selective Service Draft Board and he achieved the rank of Master Sargent in the Mississippi National Guard. He was the last surviving member of the Rough Riders Coffee Club.
Linder is survived by his wife, Rachel Russell McNeely, three sons, Robert “Bobby” McNeely of Moody, AL, Richard “Rick” McNeely and his wife, Susie, of Hendersonville, TN, and James “Jim” and his wife, Molly, of Oxford, MS; six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
