Mrs. Willinda Sellers Hopson, 70, went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2021, at 2:55 AM surrounded by her family at her home in Oxford, MS. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Oxford, MS from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. There will be a private graveside service at Magnolia Cemetery in Defuniak Springs, FL.
Born in Tampa, Florida on March 2, 1951, to the late Margaret Bruce and William Stuart Sellers, Mrs. Hopson worked for the Yazoo City School District for 42 years as a beloved librarian. Her kind heart allowed her to see the full potential in each and every student- no matter their background or academic level. She found great joy in encouraging students to reach beyond their perceived ability, graduate high school and go on to serve as successful members of society. Mrs. Hopson was very well known within the community because of her willingness to help in any capacity for the good of the students and fellow staff, often giving up her own vacation days to fellow teachers in need of extra time off. She served as the Beta Club sponsor and concession stand coordinator. Those who were blessed to know and love Willinda will carry her legacy with them through life by striving to see the good in all people, offering their time and service to those in need and selflessly caring for others, just as she would have done.
Willinda is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Hopson of Oxford; a son, Jamie Hopson and his wife, HeatherLea of Oxford; a sister Madeleine Oliver of Jackson, MS ; 2 brothers, Stuart Sellers of Brookhaven, MS and Malcolm Sellers of Church Point, LA and two grandchildren, Will and Liz Hopson.
Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Willinda’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or via their website at www.stjude.org/donate.
